A Year for the Books!
Posted on May 06 2017
WOW! Is it ok to applaude oneself? One year since the launch of Jolie Gotique and what a year it has been. Beginning as a fashion truck, launching an online boutique and organically streaming these efforts into a blog and becoming a lifestyle influencer has been exciting, incredible and exhausting simultaneously.
Here are just a few of the many highlights & bloopers over the last year:
During the concept’s inception, I was so involved with development that I gave little thought to actually driving a 24-foot “bus”. I am 5 ft 2 in and petite all around. When people find out I am the driver they laugh hysterically, and frankly I am still laughing myself! Here’s a little secret that will have you peeing in your pants - I had to buy an adult booster seat off amazon.com just to see over the steering wheel!! I then covered it in a fuchsia pink pillowcase to match the fuchsia pink driver’s seat.
One of my first mishaps was 2 weeks post launch. I worked at an event and forgot my generator for electricity. It was a rainy, gloomy day and customers desperately needed light to shop. I understood well that keeping lights on without the ignition drains the battery but I ignored this fact. Low and behold my customers successfully shopped and it was time to pack up and go home, but home I was not going. I drained the battery and the GOtique wouldn’t start. It was raining and everyone had left except for a baseball team that was giving car washes to raise funds. I was certainly not the customer they were expecting but a volunteer dad happened to have jumper cables and voila off on the road I went. Lesson learned!
There are certainly more highlights than bloopers, which is a good thing!
The First Bank of Greenwich, B2B Extravaganza at JHouse, was one of my defining moments. The staff and organizers went out of their way to park the GOtique right in the middle of the event. Jolie Gotique was front and center for all to see and the reception was unbelievable. Business owners, shoppers, realtors, foodies were all there and awed by the concept. I realized then that Jolie Gotique would be something bigger than I anticipated. To this day, I bump into people who talk about seeing me there. I am so excited to participate again June 15, 2017.
You never forget your first satisfied customer. A true delight and I printed the email which read: “You nailed it. Felt beautiful Sat night, thanks!” The true essence of why this all began.
It’s been a wild ride and it’s only the beginning.
Cheers to year two!
